The experts
deserve to be at the front.
The people best positioned to help others shouldn’t have to fight through a broken, complicated system just to do it. caret care exists to change that: to remove the barriers between skilled clinicians and the people who need them most.
Put the experts at the front of the line.
caret care’s mission is simple: make it easier for the most skilled clinicians to do the most good. We remove the operational, administrative, and business barriers that stand between independently licensed therapists and the practice (and the patients) they’re built for.
Every hour a clinician spends confused about LLC filings is an hour not spent doing the work they trained years to do. Every practice that doesn’t launch because the business side felt too overwhelming is a therapist lost to the people who need them. We are here to close that gap.
A world where expertise flows freely.
We believe the mental health ecosystem works better when the best clinicians have the freedom to practice on their own terms. Independent practice isn’t a luxury. It’s often where the most impactful, specialized, and personalized care happens.
Our vision is a future where access to high-quality behavioral health care is limited only by the availability of skilled practitioners, not by the administrative burden of building the practice itself. Where a therapist’s time, energy, and expertise go directly to clients, not to bureaucracy.
caret care is the infrastructure that makes that possible, and we’re just getting started.
Grad school trains clinicians. Nobody trains them for this.
The clinical training system in the United States is rigorous, demanding, and produces competent, caring practitioners. It does not produce business owners. The gap between clinical readiness and practice readiness is enormous, and almost nobody addresses it.
The result: talented clinicians spend months researching things they shouldn’t have to research. They make foundational business decisions without adequate information. They delay launching, sometimes indefinitely, because the path forward isn’t clear. Or they launch without the legal, compliance, and operational foundation they need, and discover the gaps later at real cost.
This isn’t a knowledge problem. It’s a structural problem. And structural problems need structural solutions.
The profession is at an inflection point.
Demand for mental health services has never been higher. The workforce of independently licensed clinicians has never been more capable. And the technology, platforms, and infrastructure to support a new generation of independent practice have never been more accessible.
The opportunity is right now. Skilled therapists who want to practice on their own terms have more reason than ever to do it, and fewer reasons not to. caret care is here to make sure that when a clinician decides they’re ready, the path forward is clear, structured, and achievable.
Six things we hold as true and build from.
These aren’t values written for a wall. They’re the actual operating beliefs that shape every decision caret care makes about what to build, how to build it, and who to build it for.
Expertise should be rewarded, not buried
The clinicians doing the hardest work (trauma, crisis, complex presentations) deserve systems that support their work, not obstruct it. Private practice is how they get it.
Structure is not the opposite of autonomy
The right structure enables freedom. A well-built practice lets a clinician see who they want, charge what they’re worth, and practice the way they know works, without second-guessing every decision.
Complexity should be absorbed, not passed on
The operational complexity of running a practice is real. But it belongs in the system, not on the clinician’s plate. We absorb that complexity so they don’t have to carry it.
Momentum matters more than perfection
A practice that launches imperfectly and improves is better than a practice that never launches waiting to be perfect. We build for forward movement, not theoretical completeness.
Clinicians deserve technology built for them
Most practice management tools are built for administrators. caret care is built for the clinician: the person who spent years training to help people, not years learning business operations.
Better access starts with better supply
The mental health access crisis is partly a supply problem. When more skilled clinicians can sustain independent practices, more people get access to quality care. This matters beyond the individual.
What the system looks like, and what it could look like.
The gap between a licensed clinician and a functioning independent practice is real, measurable, and largely preventable. It’s not a talent gap. It’s an infrastructure gap.
The status quo
Months spent researching business formation across disconnected sources with no clinical context
Foundational decisions made without full information, then discovered to be wrong later
Compliance gaps that create real legal and professional risk
Practices that never launch because the path forward isn’t clear enough to take the first step
Clinical talent locked inside agency and institutional settings because going independent feels impossible
What we’re building toward
A structured path from decision to launch, with every step sequenced, explained, and actionable
Foundational decisions made with full context, guided by someone who’s been through it
Compliance documentation generated, organized, and always accessible when needed
More practices launching and surviving because the barrier to start is finally manageable
The best clinicians in the ecosystem free to do their best work, on their own terms
Not a course. Not a consultant. Not a checklist.
Every category of “help for therapists starting a practice” has a fundamental problem. caret care was built to solve them all.
Built by a clinician, not a consultant
Every decision in this platform was made by someone who went through the private practice launch process themselves, as a licensed clinician, not as a business advisor looking in from the outside. The blind spots we address are real blind spots we’ve had.
A guided system, not an information dump
The internet has more private practice advice than any clinician could read. What it doesn’t have is a structured, sequenced execution system that does the work with you: forms that auto-fill, documents that generate, decisions that stay in the right order.
Clinical context built in, not added on
Generic small business advice applied to behavioral health practice is often wrong or incomplete. PLLC requirements, HIPAA considerations, Good Faith Estimates, credentialing: these aren’t footnotes in caret care. They’re the core of it.
Built for the long term, not just launch
We’re building toward full practice operations support: billing, EHR integration, client access, professional networking. Launch is the beginning of what caret care will be, not the entirety of it.
The principles behind everything we build
Why a clinician built this, and why it matters that one did
Tim built caret care after starting his own practice. He has spent most of his career building things, working alongside startups, engineers, and business leaders on hard problems for social good. Starting a practice was the first of those problems that was his own. He was a licensed clinical social worker, still working full time, building the practice in the hours around his caseload. What ate those hours wasn’t the clinical work. It was the setup: insurance billing rules that change from payer to payer, HIPAA requirements for every tool that touches client information, and an endless field of EHRs, telehealth platforms, and payment systems, each claiming to be the right one. The choices were to pay a consultant thousands of dollars or piece it together from search results, usually without knowing what to search for next. The practice on the other side was worth it. Setting his own schedule and billing for his own work turned out to be as freeing as he had hoped. caret care is the guide he wanted at the start, built so other clinicians can reach the same independence, whether full time or on the side.
That experience shapes every part of caret care. The steps follow the order a practice actually comes together in, not the order a business course teaches it. The documents are built from your own answers. And the questions that cost Tim his evenings are answered before you need to ask them, so your time goes to deciding what kind of practice you want: your hours, your clients, your fee.
caret care is
the beginning
of something bigger.
Launch support is the foundation. The vision is a full practice operating system: everything an independent clinician needs to run a thriving, sustainable practice in one place.
Practice launch infrastructure
The guided build system, from readiness assessment through first client, is live and growing. This is the foundation everything else builds on.
A Back Office that’s actually yours
Your practice’s own formation, tax, banking, and compliance documents live in your Back Office: organized, and stored for as long as your account is active. These are your business’s records, not client files, so nothing here expires or gets purged.
A Resource Library that keeps growing
The tool you’ll use to generate client-facing documents as your caseload grows. Full access is included with your purchase and your first year; after that, keeping it active for new client forms and future additions runs on a simple renewal.
Billing and credentialing support
Insurance credentialing, payer enrollment, billing system setup, fully integrated so clinicians spend time on care, not claims.
Client access and referral network
Connecting clinicians with the clients who need them through smart directories, referral tools, and a community of independent practitioners.
EHR and records integration
Direct connection to your EHR so your practice data, documents, and client records live in one place without manual transfers.
Peer community and growth
A network of independently practicing clinicians sharing insights, referrals, and support, because no one builds a great practice entirely alone.
Ready to build the practice you trained for?
The work you do matters. The practice you build is how you get to keep doing it, on your own terms, with the clients you’re meant to serve.
